Rahul Gandhi for PM: Chidambaram

In the next few days, if you bump into a Rahul Gandhi look-a-like in TN, it could be the real guy. Starting today in Trichy, the Gandhi-in-waiting will be begining the TN leg of his low-profile study tour of South India. What makes the visit noticeable is the absence of the Congress fanfare and the willingness of someone from the party to get to the grass-root.
…sources described his tour as “extremely private” and will not be attending any programme organised by the Congress or the party-ruled governments of Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka.
In fact organisers have taken care to make his visit a hush-hush affair, in order to avoid intrusion by either partymen or the media. He is being accompanied by a small group of people associated with NGOs and his constituency managers.
Chidambaram, in an Interview with BBC has unequivocally announced that he’d like to see Rahul Gandhi leading Congress and stopped short of hollering, “Engal Thalaivar Rahul Gandhi”.
“I can’t speak about the future. The Congress party throws up leaders in every generations. (If) Rahul Gandhi emerges as the leader of this generation and Congress party elects him as leader. I will be very happy,” he said.
